We're back with our third installment of Art Basics! Today we will be exploring all things PASTE!!! (You can check out our posts about GELS here and GESSOS here!)
Finnabair has amazing Modeling PASTE products which include: basic Paste and Light Paste, each with their own special properties. So, how do you use paste, and which one do you choose? It helps to learn about each one so we've prepared a few infographics for you. Feel free to right-click and save each PASTE sheet for your own use! Now, let's explore the options!
Art Basics Paste: Paste is another must-have basic art medium that you will love playing with! Try using on projects for dimensional texture and design, such as on an art journal, layout, card, tag, or any other surface. The paste will dry white, yet retain the design.
- Use paste with a stencil for gorgeous results, leaving very defined designs and texture.
- Add paste over a project with a palette knife or texture brush to create waves, dips, and curves.
- Dab paste on with a brush to any surface to create a pebbled texture. You can then paint on top or top with Color Bloom sprays for textured color.
- Color paste with Mica Powder, a dab of Art Alchemy Paint, Impasto Paint, or any other colored medium to create a tinted paste!
- Stir in micro-beads, glitter, or Art Sugar before applying to your project for magical results!
Light Paste: While regular Paste is similar in weight to bubblegum, Light Paste is more like Marshmallow Creme! You will attain similar results no matter which paste you use, however, Light Paste is better suited for certain projects such as cards and tags where extra weight can affect the sturdiness of the project, and the whiteness retained will sometimes be more opaque, depending on the thickness of application.
Availability: You can find both pastes in 8 oz jars, or the regular Paste in a 2 oz tube, and as part of the Mixed-Media Essentials Kit available in some stores! 961411 8 oz Modeling Paste, 961404 8 oz Light Paste, 962975 Paste Tube

"I love both of Finnabair's modeling pastes: regular and light. In this project which I titled, "Snow Queen", I decided to use the Light Paste. The difference between those pastes is that the Light Paste is not resistant to coloring at all and has a beautiful transparency. When I want to create a background texture on a patterned cardstock, but retain the original pattern, I use this paste." ~ Ola

"My favorite way to use Modeling Paste is just as it is – white. But you can also dye it, or use it as a base to create a texture paste of your own. I really love Modeling Paste as it’s so thick and heavy bodied, so it’s perfect for stenciling. The thick paste really makes a sharp pattern." ~ Riikka
If you aren’t afraid to get your fingers dirty, the Modeling Paste also makes a perfect snow medium on its own. Just apply with a finger to layers of varying heights to get a natural feel. If you want something extra, add some glitter on top to create sparkling snowbanks!

Modeling Paste is one of my favorite products to play with, as I consider it a STAPLE for many of my papercraft and art projects! Honestly I love to use it straight out of the jar for a beautiful white design that I can leave, or color. I love paste so much, I'd love to have the opportunity to give a try to Prima ones. But they're hard to find in France.
