Decorate-A-Pumpkin

BOO! Are you ready to have a bit of fall fun? Today we are decorating pumpkins! Why not jump in and join us? You can use ANY type of pumpkin: Styrofoam, paper mache, plastic, wood, metal, or a real one! Just think of the Prima products you could use:

black gesso
white gesso
rust paste
patina paste
glitter
mica flakes
microbeads
stamps
decor moulds
waxes
sparks paints
impasto paints
and so much more!

"I love decorating for Halloween! Over the years, I have made a lot of my own decorations and this year I decided to alter some pumpkins for my home. So, I grabbed some fake pumpkins at my local craft store in various shapes and sizes, then went to town on making them look elegantly spooky." ~ Cari Fennell

1. Start by covering the pumpkins with Art Basics - clear gesso. This will add some tooth for the art mediums to adhere to and you wont need to add as many layers of paint for even coverage. The clear gesso takes care of that for you.

2. Use IOD paper clay in the IOD moulds and start gluing them to the pumpkin where you want them, while they are still wet.

3. I used soft gloss gel to adhere them with and gently pushed them into the curves and valleys of the pumpkin shape.

4. Then I painted them with Art Basics heavy black gesso. You can of course use chalk paint or acrylic paint too. Paint the entire surface (while the clay castings are still wet-that's fine!) Then allow the pumpkins to dry for a bit.

5. In the meantime, spray some white Prima leaves with Magic Stone Color Bloom spray and dry.

6. Once the pumpkins are dry, start adding Art Alchemy wax to just the mould castings. Then glue the leaves around the stem

"I loved playing with my various Gessos on this pumpkin project. After the gesso dries, add Acrylic Paint Sparks from Finnabair. I do not usually play with these, but they're so easy to work with. I altered two pumpkins, which I then stacked to give dimension and lots of texture with Prima flowers, Druzy Stones, and Art Stones!" ~Jennifer Marie
