Buckle up! We have LOTS happening today! Not only do we have a gorgeous beach-themed Art Recipe, but we are also hosting a creative media hop with Finnabair...with gorgeous prizes! Scroll down for details!

August Art Recipe: This month;s recipe features ocean-inspired projects + new colors of Metallique Acrylics: Coral Reef, Mermaid Teal, and Pear; along with Art Stones (of all sizes) and Clear Glass Beads. Can you hear the ocean waves calling your name?

Kasia Bogatko is here with a gorgeous beachy canvas! See more of Kasia's work on her site!
"I really like creating projects on canvases. When I use them, I'm not worried about the amount of paints and media as this surface is much more durable than paper. This time I used a round base and I built a multi-layered, rich composition." ~ Kasia
There are many fantastic ways to use Art Alchemy paints. I use them as watercolors - I spray the water immediately after application, but remember you have to be fast. After drying, the paint is permanent. When you use the paints this way, you get a more delicate pastel look, when used straight from the tube (or jar), you will get brighter, more saturated tones. These paints are also perfect for splashing and we get beautiful glossy dots. They also work brilliantly with Art Alchemy Waxes and you can see this effect on the seahorse which I painted with paints and highlighted the details with one of the Waxes.

John Creighton Petersen shows how to use vacation photos to create your own special keepsake! See more of John's work on his site!
"Many escape to the beach for a summer holiday, but I like to save those trips for the winter time when the dreary gray skies and rain of Seattle become a little bit on the unbearable side of things. With memories of the beautiful beaches and the crystal clear ocean surrounding the Bahamas on my mind, I decided that it was time I captured some of the memories from our trip there a few months ago." ~ John

1. I started this project with the shadow box frame, beginning with a base coat of Blue Patina Paste, followed with Mint Green Patina Paste. To add more colors that reminded me of the ocean, I highlighted the frame with some of the new Metallique paint colors – Midnight Sky, Mermaid Teal and a light touch of Coral Reef.
2. For the background of the project, I applied muslin fabric shaped with Clear Sculpture Medium to create my 'water' which was painted with Metallique Deep Waters as a base color, followed with highlights of Metallique Emerald Green and Mermaid Teal.
3. Once dried it was time to add some findings of our trip, using Snowflake Paste as my adhesive for my shells, driftwood, Art Stones, Micro Beads in Splash and Grass, and a touch of crushed sea glass.
4. Once dried, I painted the Art Stones and driftwood with Metallique Soft Satin, then highlighted the driftwood with Coral Reef.
5. To add a little shimmer to the sea shells, a quick layer of the new Metallique White Pearl was the perfect touch. To add a little more color to the background, I painted the back of a couple of Art Pebbles with Metallique Mermaid Teal.
6. Around the edges of the photos, I mixed Metallique Coral Reef with Texture Powder and applied with a brush.

Sanda Reynolds's piece has amazing texture! She will share a simple technique so you can create it too. See more of Sanda's work on her site!
"Hello, My Friends! I was thrilled to create a project for the Prima Art Recipe this month as I absolutely love these products and the colour combo. The Art Alchemy Metallique Paints are one of my favourites, along with the Art Stones, and Clear Glass Beads. There isn’t any secret that I adore texture, and the Art Stones and Glass Beads are just perfect for that!" ~ Sanda
1. So, I rolled up my sleeves and I started by applying a layer of Heavy White Gesso on a piece of watercolour paper. When this was dry, I came with another layer, this time I used Modeling Paste. I spread a generous amount of the paste with a silicone brush and while wet, I pressed another piece of cardstock on top and then, pulled them apart to reveal a fabulous texture. This is a very easy and quick technique, yet very effective.
2. I dried everything with a heating tool and then, I cut the paper into ATC size. I created my composition on each card and glued everything down 3D Matte Gel.
3. My next step was to add paint to all of my cards and for this I used Art Alchemy paints Metallique – Coral Reef, Mermaid Teal, and White Pearl - along with touches of Jade Impasto paint and Metallique Lime Green.
4. As the finishing touch and to highlight the texture I used Art Alchemy Sparks (Mermaid Sparkle and Butterfly Spells). I hope you’ll feel inspired by my project and try to create your own mixed media cards using these fabulous products.

The project that I stays with me is the wooden horse. I look for a horse every
where to alter. Haven't found one yet, but will keep looking. Another favorite is the turquoise and and copper long piece. I have made 3 variations of that - everyone loves the colors - including me!
