The Theme: Mystery
The Products: Black Gesso + Art Alchemy Waxes + Art Pebbles
This magical and mystical formula guarantees simply amazing results! Let' see what Finn's design team has created with July's Art Recipe!
A bit of Heavy Black Gesso and gel medium (in this case it was 3D Gloss Gel), some pretty Mechanicals embellishments, a pinch of Art Pebbles and a couple of magic touches with a brush and stunning Finnabair´s Waxes. This is what happened under the cover of one night in my studio. :) Although I have no cauldron, I have the best Finnabair products in the world! :) ~ Karolina Bukowska (http://karolinabukowska.pl/)
Black Gesso is really a magical product - not only does it secure any surface you need to use but also looks incredibly beautiful when it dries and becomes matte. It's also the best base to be working with Art Alchemy Waxes and get amazing effects. To apply the Waxes you can use the paintbrushes or simply your fingertips, you will fall in love with the shine and the stunning metallic look you get. For my tin I completed the look of Waxes with a touch of Sparks acrylic paint. I hope you will feel inspired by the mysterious look of my altered tin and feel tempted to make some mixed media magic too!

'Mystery' what a fabulous theme for this months Art Recipe. I just love a little mystery in my life, don't you? :) I started my piece with a black gesso'd background - black adds an air of mystery I feel. Plus, the Art Alchemy Wax colors always looks so rich and bright on a dark background. I like to brush my waxes into the gesso with an old paintbrush, I can be more precise that way and get into all the nooks and crannies, also I overlap and layer my waxes which gives a soft feathery seamless merge. Kassa Hayselden (http://kassadh.blogspot.ie/)
The large flower that you see is a Prima paper flower, gessoed and brushed with wax - I think it looks like a metal flower now rather than a paper flower. I also used dried poppies which worked a treat, and because I always call the Mini Art Stones 'poppy seed stones' I thought them apt for this piece along with Finnabairs Mechanical Metal Lotus and Roses. The larger Art Stones look like precious gems with shiny wax and for a little more sparkle I added a dash of Art Alchemy Wax, pure magic.
TIP: One of my favourite tricks with the waxes is when using ephemera pictures, like this one by Prima 'Melange', is to brush a little gesso (black in this instance) randomly on/around the picture. When dry, rub in the wax, which gives the picture an ethereal quality. (My fave wax for this is Opal Magic Blue Velvet and for the vintage edges I brush in a little Metallique Vintage Gold). I sprayed over the top of the wax with Prima Color Bloom Spray Mist Soft Teal. The spray caught hold where the black gesso had escaped the wax. The Art Alchemy Impasto Paint 'Snow White' watered down made great splatters and held fast to the wax too. I love this particular picture of the little mystery girl, who knows who she is...? She captured my heart the first time I saw her and I felt she was perfect for this particular recipe.

Hello, Friends! For this amazing Art Recipe I've prepared a mysterious metal tin in which you can hide your special treasures! This tin was old and the paint already started to peel; there were traces of rust as well. As I don't like to throw out things, even when they're old and worn. What I do is I alter them! I bet you have some things at home that you can alter by yourself using some magical Finnabair's supplies and mixed media products! ~ Marta Turska-Grochocka (http://ja-majka.blogspot.ie/)
Directions:
1. First, I covered my tin with a layer of Black Gesso. The Gesso serves as a perfect base for all the products to come. I applied it with a wide brush - I love to leave some brushstrokes visible, it's a cool way to add some texture on your projects.
2. I let it dry and I started to create my composition. I used some chipboards and resin elements and 3D Gloss Gel to adhere them to the surface.
3. Thanks to Black Gesso I applied before, my elements stuck to the surface really well. I used Melange Art Stones, and some paper flowers, to create an extra 3D look to my project. All these elements were covered with another layer of Black Gesso that I dried with a heating tool.
4. Then I applied three colors of Art Alchemy Waxes starting from the brightest one, later the silver one and Mystic Turquoise in the end. It adds the mysterious, magical touch and gives the look of an ancient relic to my project. I love to use waxes on Black Gesso, it makes the whole project shine and sparkle and it beautifully accents all the textures and the embellishments I used. It's an amazing way to accent the edges and elements you want to highlight. It even makes the Art Stones look like mysterious stones!
