March Color Madness continues with our focus on Oil Pastels and Graphite Sticks! If you would like to try out different techniques with pastels, try both our Soft Oil Pastels and Water-Soluble Pastels. Visual inspiration is so valuable to start the creative vibes, so enjoy our post full of everything you need to be able to use your Oil Pastels and Graphite Sticks! Our Design Teams have absolutely astounded us with their creativity, color palettes and composition!
"The Prima Soft Oil Pastels are absolutely amazing! You have to try these to believe me. This product is not soluble in media or water, like most other coloring mediums . This may be a challenge initially for many, but that is what makes it sooo unique! The colors are soft and creamy and you can use your fingers to blend them easily, give beautiful gradients or layer on top of each other! Don't forget to look at the back of the packaging for some hints ;)"

Here, I mixed oil pastels, Watercolor Confections Pastel dreams and Color Bloom II - Wild Raspberry to create the background of my canvas. "There they are! My two sweet princesses, back when they were little. Nowadays, they look so different in many ways. Naturally, they have grown up, but also their appearance has changed, they are discovering themselves. So cool! I used quite a few different coloring mediums in my page; the main key being the two different oil pastel sets. I created a little step by step for you if you want to see how the page was made." ~ Riikka Kovasin

"I used Oil Pastels to add color accents for layout’s background. I love how it works with any mediums, so I add few pieces from orange crayon to light paste, mixed them and add to the page through the stencil. To make my layout brighter and more interesting, I painted one sheet from Coloring Book #4 with Tropicals Watercolor Confections and cut flowers and leaves, than add them to layout. I love how it looks." ~ Nastya Istorkina

"I love working with the new graphite water-soluble sticks! They can be reactivated with water and pushed around with a brush. Having different shades (2b - 12b) is also helpful when adding shadows in faces; creating more depth." ~ Mindy Lacefield

"As usual, I started my work by creating the layers. I used paper from Vintage Emporium, then I added a thin layer of Heavy White Gesso. When the gesso was dry, I took the oil pastels, as you can see in the photo, I just drew colourful lines. I later blended these lines with the help of brush and water. The final shade only depends on amount of water and the pastels. Oil pastels offer you a great new experience if you’ve never tried them before, and I think you’ll find that they’re not difficult to use. I took different stamps, mainly with theme of print. Without planning, I stamped them with the help of black ink." ~ Monika Huculak
