Contest Rules:

2. Entry must have at least 30% Prima included. (Now, we are not going to complain if you use 100% Prima!)

Ready for a little inspiration?

Introduce yourself: Hello, my name is Sharon Laakkonen (pronounced like "walkin in, but with an L at the beginning!) I'm married, with children, and I work full-time. I also love being creative, so you will often see pieces I made through-out my home. (Photo above taken by my 16 year old son...who has never used a camera before and thinks you only need ONE shot. Haha! Obviously he has a lot to learn about women!)

Do you own a house, rent an apartment, or live on a house boat? Yes, I own a house, but a house boat sounds super fun! This is actually my sixth house, but if we are including apartments and rentals, it is more like my 13th! However, I still love personalizing each one to make it a real home for my family. This house has probably been my most difficult to decorate. Life has been so busy lately! However, when Prima came out with home décor items I just had to give it a whirl. My display above includes five pieces created for this display. I then added a few more accents to finish it out. Tip: I put everything I wanted to use on the floor first, fussed with it, and took a few photos. That really helped me to see how it would look before I started hammering nails. You can also cut paper shapes of each item and tape them to the wall for a more realistic idea.

Any favorite colors or trends you love? I am always switching my favorite color. That's why I think it's best to invest in high-quality basics that are neutral tones, then customize your smaller pieces so you can switch them out.

Coloring Book

What room/space did you choose and why? I love the gallery art trend, so I decided to do a flip on that with my entryway. Can I just say that I LOVE the results? I started with just three main neutral pieces: a table, a mirror, and a lamp. Then started having fun with the Prima Watercoloring Book and Tropical Watercolor Confections. I chose spring colors to paint one coloring page, framed it, and used it as the base to brighten up the spot. Tip: I plan on switching out the page each month by coloring a new one. The Prima Coloring Book has so many gorgeous designs to pick from.

Clay Pot

Next I painted a clay pot with Chalkboard Paints, a touch of Gold Crackle Paste, then added an IOD moulded piece right on the pot! Tip: use super glue and attach paper clay while still wet enough to bend. I'll just switch out the flowers each season too. The larger pot peeking out from behind was sprayed with gold glitter paint. It provides a great place for holding odds and ends...or, if I could actually remember to water my plants, I might plant a succulent in there!

Loom Weave

Did you know Prima has Fiber Art Loom Kits? I had never done weaving before (unless you count a macrame class that I took when I was a kid?!?) I pulled out my Prima Loom and had a BLAST! I completed this piece in about three hours while watching TV. And that counted snack and youtube breaks! I personalized the kit by adding a few more creamy yarns for a tone-on-tone piece. Once completed I attached gorgeous Prima roses that have a touch of foil on the edges, and hung on a dowel painted with gold glitter paint. The texture it adds to my gallery wall is amazing! And it will match any crazy color palettes I come up with. It isn't perfect, and I may have made up my own stitches, but it was really FUN and FAST!

Square Note Frame

My next piece is super cute! I found this square frame at Hobby Lobby and knew how fun it would be to colorize! I started with Color Bloom sprays in Summer Sky and Glistening Waves, then added Tea Stain and Gold Foil. Once dry I painted randomly over it with Sea Breeze Chalkboard Paint. Next I dabbed on Gold Crackle Paste here and there. Lastly I added a Creating In Faith 3"x4" card in the middle for a sweet reminder. Tip: Just use "Command Strips for Posters" for easy removal. Oh, and I plan on switching that card out each month to keep the display fresh too! The CIF line has beautiful colors that are perfect for spring.

Birdy Watercolor Panel

There's a cute, little 4"x6" watercolor panel that I had created a month ago. (That literally took me 3-4 minutes to make.) I added a Christine Adolph Adhesive Rub-On to the panel, added silver Prima foil on top, then watercolored over it! A few flowers were added..then I splashed a bit of watercolor on the flowers to pull the whole look together. The watercolor panels are so inexpensive and easy to use. I am loving them!

A white wreath and a huge "hello" greeting were all I needed to pull the whole look together. I want people to feel welcome when they walk into my home. And I want to switch the look up every season so they look forward to seeing what I've created lately.

Paintable Wall Plaque

To close I just had to include a few things on the bottom shelf. This cherub was a special gift that I carried back with me all the way from Norway! (Thank you, Ellen!) It is one of my most cherished pieces and works so beautifully no matter where I put him. My two year old granddaughter is always looking for him when she stops to visit. I think she will like her "angel baby", as she calls him, down at her level! I added a Carté Blanche wood plaque with a Belle Fleur Paintable on top (colored with Prima's Watercolor Pencils.) The metals, microbeads, and fabric flowers really make that piece stand out. Tip: Adding a little display on the bottom shelf also helps hide the outlet!
