...my true love gave to me: the most glorious RELICS & ARTIFACTS® treasures! Seriously. If you have not tried coloring an R&A archival cast piece, yet, you are going to be delighted when you do! Available in every style, shape, and design you can imagine, they're cast from real-life souvenirs Sandra collected as she traveled the world. They're classy, beautiful, and perfect for your holiday crafts. Today we've joined with Sandra's brand-new design team to bring you beautiful ornaments, cards, and tags. We hope they inspire you to join in our 12 Days of Christmas challenge! (Details at the bottom!)
Our very first exquisite piece is by Sandra herself! This holiday angel ornament would add her sweet angelic presence to adorn any tree! An R&A Figurehead, a wood base for security, plus a touch of gold Dresden trim for her crown and wings...that's all it took to create this heirloom-quality keepsake. Customize her by switching out the lace and trim color for a beautiful addition to your tree!
Is she not the most beautiful royal angel you've ever seen? This would make the perfect teacher's gift, a special something for your best friend, or make several to add a magnificent vintage quality to your own tree this holiday.
Just switch out the fabrics, laces and trims for a totally different result. This snow white angel uses the same Figurehead and wood blank, but Sandra switched to silver Dresden trims and white lace to create this frosty angel! Full directions to create your own are below!
Angelic Christmas Tree Ornament/Topper Directions:
NOTE: You will follow the same exact instructions to create both Holiday Angel Ornaments/Tree Toppers.
- Adhere R&A Figurehead to wood torso support with 3D gloss gel.
- Add color to figurehead with oil pastels. Blonde hair, blush, etc.
- Use a 4 ½” wide x 16” long strip of lace to create the angel's “dress.”
- NOTE- for silver angels dress I stitched 3 layers of Memory Hardware trim petite rosette together.
- Use needle and thread and loosely stitch all the way across the top of your lace, then cinch it in to create ‘”ruching” effect, tie it off, and glue this around the neck area. This creates a pretty, laced “collar” on the dress.
- Adhere Prima flowers & trims to dress where desired to fancy it up even more!
- Note: I painted all the R&A Dresden trims with Finnabair's Antique Gold and Silver Crackle Pastes to “age” them, then highlighted it all with touches of Prima's Eggshell Chalkboard Paints to give them a more ethereal look.
- Cut a 3 ½” strip of R&A Dresden (pre-painted) trim. Adhere a 3 ½” inch strip of Prima Ecru wire thread to the back of the dresden, roll into a circle, and glue the ends together. This creates the crown. Glue crown on head.
- Embellish crown with Chalkboard paint “jewels” using the end of a toothpick dipped into the paint.
- Cut R&A (pre-painted) Dresden wings in half, and glue 2 wings to each side of “dress” to create a “fluttery” effect!
- Adhere (pre-painted) R&A Dresden trim Rosette to the back of angel to create a lovely “halo!”
- Lastly, slip a 10” piece of gold wire through the wire loop on the figure to hang your beautiful new ornament!
- These are sweet little gifts for friends and family...even the postman might enjoy one! And don’t forget to make a bunch for yourself!!

"Can you believe this was my first time playing with the Relics & Artifacts®?! I quickly learned that the best way to get an aged & “found” look to the pieces is by a process of adding & subtracting...just like all other mixed-media work. I applied layers of paint, mica, micro-beads & soft gloss gel, then I used a Q-tip dipped in Paint Thinner to remove some of the layers in certain areas, which helps the deeply grooved design at the side & top of the heart to really stand out!” Helen Tilbury
