It's a Prima & Sizzix Blog Switch!

"I want to start by saying what a pleasure it is to be joining the Prima blog as a guest. I can’t tell you how much fun I have had with the Sizzix dies designed by Prima. They are a hugely popular range and open up so many creative possibilities, especially for the mixed-media artist. The Sizzix  Bigz dies are unique in die-cutting terms as they can cut textiles, balsa wood, mount board, cork, shrink plastic….actually, if you can cut it with scissors then you shouldn’t have a problem cutting with our dies!"

"Here is a card I created for my Aunty Carol featuring my Grandfather (her Father.)  The card is a very specific size to fit within a picture frame, which makes up the second part of the gift. My Grandfather was a blacksmith at the local coal mine many years ago, so it was nice to use some more masculine/industrial elements in the shape of the cogs.

The layered flower and butterfly were die-cut from kraft card; and the cogs were cut from mount board. They were all painted with black acrylic paint before they were gently rubbed with gold and silver gilding wax. I also used pale blue acrylic paint to enhance the distressed effect.

The papers are from the Lyric collection, and I am particularly smitten with the new crystal embellishments from the Cartographer range. The shabby-chic Picture frames are perfect straight out of the box, so for once, I left it alone!" ~Pete

"I took this photograph of my daughter on her first day at school; I love the faraway look in her eyes as if she is, somehow, seeing into the future. Maybe that’s just me being a silly sentimental Dad, but it is one of those important little moments in a life child’s life and, maybe, one day I will use some of the other gazillion photos I took that morning."

"All the die-cut elements including the frame, flower, wing, padlock, and key were cut from heavyweight kraft card and painted with gesso (as much for the texture as colour.) I then applied the pale blue paint using a brayer to achieve a dry brush effect."

"For the distressed edge I used a couple of Chalk Edgers (Knotted Wood and Teak Wall.) Sometimes I used the tool to apply the paint, and sometimes I applied the colour with my finger tips. The lace element, street sign, and wooden embellishments also got the brayer treatment to help them blend in seamlessly. A little bit of bling, in the form of assorted adhesive gems, and a strategically placed brad were added and we're all set." ~Pete
