Today's step-by-step is by the very talented Brit Sviggum from Norway!
Brit's whimsical style is so delightful. She often cuts her photos out, adds lots of gorgeous texture, and creates a realistic backdrop on her layouts. She is going to use the Optimist collection (and a few other products) to show us how she put together this sweet layout!
Unique Layout
Step by Step
"This layout is about my son, Leif, who started school after the holiday.
He`s now in 3rd grade."
"I think this paper from the Optimist collection is a great background for
my school pictures. First of all I used some masking tape, both horizontally and vertically.
After that I add a layer of gesso."
"I used one of Finnabair`s stamps, in the wet gesso, to add some structure."
.
.
"When the gesso was dried I made some splats with pink mist.
Then I used a brayer to add green acrylic paint."
.
.
"An old credit card or hotel key is great to use for the grass.
It`s important to do this right after you have applied the paint. It has to be wet."
.
.
"I take the corner of the card and drag the paint upward so that it looks like grass.
It doesn`t mather how it looks on the bottom. We will cover that up."
.
.
"I love using cheesecloth. (And will do that here too.) I sprayed it with green mist and let it dry."
.
.
"This is how it looks like when I have covered the bottom of the grass with the cheesecloth.
I used 3D foam squares to put my son`s picture in place."
.
.
"Now I start adding in some more details: like cut-outs, brads, flowers, and so on.
On some of them I used 3D foam and, on some, just normal glue.
This creates nice dimension on the layout. I have used one of my son`s
school photos in a frame cut out from Optimist papers."
.
"In the end I made a yellow sun by using paint.
I hope you like this step-by-step tutorial.
I wish you all a great day."

love how you make it so it looks like your son is stepping out of some '3rd dimension'... like he's been in some other 'world'. Your step by step pictures and instructions made this look very easy to make. Thank you so much.
