Trend Watch
Trends are important...on Twitter, in the fashion world, in the life of teen-agers, with new technology, and with crafting.
Spotting trends is a FUN activity in the scrap world. We sent a few of our own scrapbooking detectives out into the international craft world and here are the trends they found!
The trend is:
Die Cutting
by detective Steph Devlin
"I
am really loving the resurgence of die cutting in scrapbooking lately."
"There seems to be such a huge selection of dies appearing on layouts. "
"I
have die cut the beautiful frame, butterfly, and leaves to enhance the
stunning Prima Papers and embellishments." Steph
We think Steph is right! People love dies because they can customize them with the papers they choose!

Stencils
by detective Leslie Ashe
"I LOVE how versatile they are!
You can use ANYTHING with them. They’re a HOT commodity right now."
"On my
layout, I used mists, paint AND ink daubers. I decided to trace a few smaller
pieces on the bottom with a pen and around some of the shapes."
Leslie is spot on with ehr prediction that stencils are a hot trend. As people use more art mediums on their projects stencils will be an important part is adding design with those mediums.

"When I started to think about trends in the scrapbooking/mixed
media world, I found myself asking, how can I possible now this? Where
do I look? But then, I soon found my answer. I start looking around
and documenting what I see, but I guess that comes back to where you
draw your inspiration from, because guarantee, right in that very place
you will see something similar. It may not be blatantly obvious until
you stop to take a few moments and assess what your eyes keep looking
at. For me, I use many different things for inspiration, Pinterest, home
decorating magazines, clothing, advertisements, shop windows...
So I started scribbling down what I was seeing in my art journal
and I never realised that watercolour effects seemed to be everywhere!"
"Honestly, you take a look for yourself?
Is watercolour the new scrapbooking trend?? "
Yes! Watercolors are trending! People love the simplicity of adding color to a project with them...and they are readily available and pretty inexpensive.

Metallics
by detective Louise Nelson
One
of the fabulous trends that Louise saw when she was at Winter CHA, was
the use of metallics, with a whole range of products from paint right
through to flowers and embellishments. Prima have a fabulous range of
metallic embellishments to compliment this trend, the most stunning
being those from the Sunrise Sunset Winter release including flowers
and Vintage Trinkets.
Louise has chosen Silver as her metallic color of choice to create her layout, to showcase this trend.
To
begin with Louise has created a masked pattern on the layout background
using the Sunrise Sunset floor stencil. To higlight this pattern louise
has applied a subtle coat of silver paint.
As
you can see from the close up photos louise has used 2 different silver
coloured fibres from the latest releases. She has distressed them quite
artfully to frame her photos and then drape from the top of the layout
to the bottom. This helps to draw the eye straight to the photos. Louise
has then completed her layout using a glorious variety of silver toned
crystals and metal flower embellishments. Once again louise has used the
canvas alphas for her title, and coloured them with water color paint,
to coordinate with her photo.

For sure there are trends and I like them. I think a great trend at the moment is: do your own thing.Get a little crazy, it is accepted. I am very happy about that.Oh , and another trend I see a lot: the use of pictures from the internet. It makes scrapbooking much easier, because a good picture does the thing. But at the same I watch myself not to do it to much. Because the soul of my scrapboooking is to archieve pictures for my children.I feel quilty, st this moment I make a page with a pinterest picture.....
