May's BAP & PPP

It's challenge time here on our blog. Both of our contests are VERY popular thanks to YOU! If you have never particpated before we welcome you to try one of them, or both! The rules are pretty simple-create a Prima-based project and submit it by the end of the month to the address below. We pick one winner for each challenge, and then feature about 20 of the other entries for each challenge mid-month.

MAY BAP

Each month we take turns with the sketch artists to provide a wonderful variety for all styles and technique levels for you. This month the talented Marie-Nicolas Alliot created our build-a-page sketch!

Marie-Nicolas created a gorgeous diagonal sketch which includes color blocking, paint splashes, stamping, and climbing florals! You can choose to incorporate all of these delightful accents... or not. You can also use it as a jumping off point to do you own thing. We just want you to be inspired enough to dig into your Prima stash!

Boys

Educator Janine Koczwara began to follow the BAP sketch fairly closely, just flipping the orientation of the sketch. But as she was putting it together she moved a couple of items around a bit and preferred it that way. She feels that sketches are the perfect springboard for your own creativity.

Sometimes you start off planning to follow the sketch fairly closely but then you find yourself going off in a different direction. If you look at Janine’s page you can see that many of the elements of the sketch are all in this LO, but they have been shifted slightly to make the design work for her photos and embellishments. Janine focused on using Distress Inks mixed with Prima's Ladybird range to create this LO. She masked the background with 2 separate masks and distress inks and then layered distress inks, stamping and embellishments to create the tag at the centre of her floral cluster.

Marie-Nicolas used her very own sketch to create this gorgeous layout! The diagonal-striped paper is a perfect fit for the diagonal sketch! Adding yellow corners and pink stenciled dots add a playful touch and wonderful springtime colors to her design.

A few well-chosen chipboard pieces finish off the page in perfect style!

Little Fella

" I decided to sway a tiny bit from the sketch and do my own thing, based on the original. I decided to move my photo corners to opposite sides. I also made my center piece longer with a larger photo."

Louise has created her own background with one of the fabulous 6 x 6 stencils. Louise placed her title perfectly above some of the stencil arrows to help draw your eye to the title.

May's palette reminds us of springtime florals and summertime sherbet colors! A few pastels are balanced with bold pink and marigold...creating a luscious palette that is sure to be fun to play with!

"Sometimes we look at colour palettes and we really like them, but we also are aware that are not colours that you can confidently use. This palette was one I really liked, but knew I wouldn't be to pull it off as well as others. When we have those little fears it's sometimes best to do something small so you can experiment and simply play."
