Although most of my layouts are filled with smiling faces and joyful times, the story isn’t always a happy one. But these stories are just as meaningful in our lives.
The first side of the layout tells the beginning of the story. The journaling reads:
I knew something was up. You didn’t share the turmoil that was going on in your life, your marriage — not until months later. But it was evident that you had a lot to think about during your brief visit with us at the beach. Change was coming. How would it turn out? I can see all that in your face now. I just didn’t know it then. I wish I could have eased your burdens. But you needed to handle this by yourself. I hope a few days at the beach helped in some small way.
I chose the Youth Hybrid CD collection to work with.
The papers were grey with black and red. I wanted more pink, instead of red. So just like when you edit a photo, you can edit and change colors. I used Enhance, Adjust Color, Replace Color... and selected a red item on the page with the eyedropper tool. I then selected the Fuzziness to make sure all the red things I wanted to change would be effected. You can see this in the little black/white thumbnail on the tool. The items being selected are shown in white. Then click on the Resulting color box and choose another colored item to sample for the replacement. Make sure Preview is checked so you can see the resulting page before you click on OK. And bam - paper customized to your color palette! Click on the picture for a better view of these options.
You can either drag and drop your photos onto the page, or print, cut and crop and add them later. Up to you!
After typing in my journaling, the last thing I did was rotate the second page and add some Wordart to it from the CD that said, "It's All Good" and added my own subtitle with fonts, to customize it further.
When I was done editing the page. I printed them both out. After about a minute of just making sure it was dry, I used a Glimmer Screen, placed over the printed swirl and sprayed with Silver Glimmer Mist.
Then I flipped it over and ’stamped’ the leftover color onto the page using a rubber brayer to press the stencil onto the paper. You can also see the contrasting color that I painted over the printed swirl shape with a waterbrush dipped into Sugar Cookie Glimmer Mist.
The second page of the layout represents hope for the future so I wanted a lot of sparkle and movement.
I added chipboard letters, ribbon and gems to the top of my layout. Flat? Not at all!
Products used in this layout:
- 830496 RFH Meredith Fenwick YOUTH collection from Prima Marketing
- Times Chipboard Alphabet from Prima Marketing
- Glimmer Mist in Silver, Creme de Rouge, Pink Bubblegum and Sugar Cookie
- Glimmer Screens, Fanciful Stencil Collection
- Glimmer Chips, Embossed Butterfly Shape
- Misc. Ribbon
So don't let hybrid intimidate you. You probably already have the software you need. If you can type and click, you have the basic skills you need too. And you can't mess it up. Just don't hit SAVE over the original file.
Physical, Digital or Hybrid. It's all good.

I'm a totally hybrid scrapper, sometimes it's more digi than traditional but it's usually more the other way, can't leave Prima alone!

Interesante esto de los híbridos, la verdad es que yo por ahora sólo se desecho el trabajo tradicional, ni nada de híbridos digitales, habrá que lanzarse en algun momento!!!!
Gracias por la idea!!!

this is amazing. A new techno inspired way to scrap. I love this idea. Who knew we were already hybrid scrappers? I like to print out my text on vellum and acetate. I love trying new things thanks for the course on hybrid!

i'd love to do more hybrid scrapbooking. I have Photoshop Elements on my computer since this past Christmas and I've added frames to my photos, done a little altering and of course I've been journaling with the computer since forever, but that's about as experimental as I've gotten. There is so much to explore!
