Dr. Seuss knew it: there is something magic about books. Each book is a beauty in and of itself – a story that leads you into a new world of fantasy. Books also have a feeling of importance to them, such as with a fabric coated hard cover or just the paper itself. But sometimes a book loses its fascination and ends up at a flea market or at the back of your bookshelf never be opened again. Why not breathe life back into those books again and fill them with your own stories? You can alter them in a way that these treasures bring unique joy back.

Nathalie Kalbach will show you how to create either a funky or a simple style altered book. You will learn beautiful folding techniques, such as ways to create pockets for treasures or hidden messages that go along with your story. You will learn how to use adhesive in unexpected ways and learn fun embossing techniques. Accompanied by beautiful Prima paper, flowers and stamps, this book will be a personal keepsake or a special present to a loved one. What’s more, it can function not only as a mini album but also as a home decor item.

Spring Prima Classes with Cari

Hello!

I have some Prima classes coming up this Spring and I wanted to let you know where I will be teaching! All of the projects are brand new and loaded with fun techniques using a variety of Prima products...

First stop: Auntie Em's Scrapbooking and Beading in Cornwall Ontario!I will be teaching two layout classes, an Altered Frame and an Album. All four classes will be held April 19th and 20th in the shop. Here's a look at one of the projects I am offering that weekend...

 

 

 

This book is a perfect hybrid of Mixed Media and traditional scrapbooking. There will be loads of techniques and cool ideas with the idea that photos can be added to the pages. This project could very easily be used as an art journal too!

Next on the list: Art du Scrapbooking in Terrebonne, Quebec! Stephanie and I have been working together like crazy to plan a fun filled Prima weekend in Quebec. I am teaching there on May 18th and 19th and I am teaching four classes all weekend. I will have a translator there for my french speaking attendees!

 

 

We will be creating this cute Tag mini album using the new Lyric collection with chipboard, flowers, metals and more! This is great for a series of little photos...

Then in June: I am teaching at the Sweet Retreat event in Pittsburgh! I am offering two classes for the attendees and also teaching at the event will be the ever talented Eileen Hull from Sizzix! This is the album we will be creating that weekend....

 

 

It's a really sweet project (haha-no pun intended) and I am using some unique embellishments and ideas to make this whole project POP!

Winter Wishes Album with Cari

Hey Friends!
I had a Live with Prima class last week and I made a holiday album using all kinds of goodies with techniques, ideas, etc...I didn't have enough time to finish the album during the show, so I got to work and finished it over the weekend. I love how it turned out and I have a Christmas present finished! I hope to make a couple more before I run out of time...

So after the show, I made some adjustments to the book and embellished some more. I cut out some deer images from the paper, used more of the canvas resist and journal spots within the clusters. It's hard not to keep going and add more! But the idea is to use what you have, gather embellies and tuck them in wherever you like to add interest to your pages.

Here are the results and I included photos from front to back....
During the show-I had originally added the deer to the right side of the cover page, but then decided I wanted to add it to the cluster. Either way-I think it would look great, so it's just a personal preference.

I also used some Zephyr alphas for the title. I plane to use the tiny type alpha once my photos are added for dates, names and maybe little phrases. I left out the photos so you can see the pages more clearly.
Then I added a little piece of scrap lace along the bottom.

This shows the back of the cover and first page. I cut out the scalloped image from the paper in the pad and added it to the paper strip with border punch. I also tucked in a couple of snowflakes from the resist canvas pack. I colored with distress stain and dabbed them with paper towel so the color is softer.

 The Tim Holtz Ornamental die will be the perfect backdrop for my photos and I used this die cut throughout the album for a consistent look. I also added a bit of the gold paint around the edges and it really made them POP!

 I added a couple of tags to my pocket page for extra journaling or small photos. Pocket pages make me happy and I love adding them throughout my books! I cut out the deer and added him to the flowers...and on the opposite page is a resist canvas deer colored with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

This is the last page and back cover of the album, with the stamped border. I added an image from the papers and used it as a flower center...

This album will be a gift for my Mom for the holidays...I plan to do my own photo shoot of the boys and add them to the pages. Of course, they will give me a hard time as always but if it's for Grandma, then they may not be as stubborn-LOL!
