Hi, Jennifer Matott here to bring you my very first post on the Prima blog!! So very excited to be on this team and can't wait to share a fun project that I created for the Prima booth at Summer CHA 2012. The minute that I saw the Craftsman line, I knew that I wanted to do something altered and super fun with it! It's the perfect line for masculine and feminine projects!
I got a chipbrush (that's the name of it at the hardware store) that was 3" wide. I had to pry the joined metal edges for the ferrule, where the handle and the bristles are joined, with a screwdriver. It was tricky and then I had to remove the bristles with scissors, screwdriver and sandpaper. Geesh...that was a lot of work! Once that was done, I could punch holes in the sides of the metal and start the fun part!
The wood can then be decorated. I used the Tea Thyme text stamp on it first. I then added colors to complement the Craftsman line. The gear texture was added with one of Prima's new stencils and modeling paste! I tinted it gold with Gelatos. Timido flowers were added that coordinated with the Craftsman line. I love the added sparkle they give with the encrusted roses.
You can see a close up here of the modeling paste and some of the new Say It in Crystals bling! Love these extra sparkly and faceted crystals! I left the metal plain to add more of the industrial feel of the line, but you can certainly use alcohol inks, paints, or gesso to change that!
The hole in the top is perfect for tying ribbon and embellishments to add a certain WOW factor. I used a gear from the Junkyard Findings line and one of the stick pins!
The fun part is added the papers to create the "bristles". I used strips of the Craftsman papers and punched the edges with decorative punches to create varied textures. I also added a piece of the Cotton tape that was colored with the stencils and Gelatos and alphabets to spell "Art". I added them in with wire and some of the Velvet Baubles with Wooden Buttons to finish the ends.
Here is a view of the back of the altered paintbrush. I embellished both sides so as to view it from both sides.
