Ready for Some Inspiration?

Mixed Media Layout

Steph uses a variety of art products and techniques on her gorgeous layout. If there is one thing we want to stress-it's that you can do mixed media with ANY scrapbooking style and on ANY project!

Steph colored resist canvas, added paste in a glorious pattern to her page, added watercolor effects and more to create these beautiful results.

Mixed Media Tag

Nic is going to show us step-by-step how to create this MM tag! Just pick up the techniques you like and try them on your next project. It's all about the inspiration!

Steps:

1. Create a tag using several layers of Ladybird papers, distress edges and use Ladybird cling stamps to stamp words on the background.

2. Use a 6x6 mask with texture paste to cover your tag. Once I lifted the mask I spread the texture paste a little more to blur the shapes created.

3. Use various small pieces of paper to create layers with texture paste and masks on your tag.

4. Add other background elements such as alphabets, trinkets and more stamping. Add texture paste on top if you wish to keep the colours shabby.

5. Finish tag with flowers, laces and elements cut out of Ladybird papers.

Mixed Media Canvas

Juliana is going to share her steps to create this lovely canvas:

1. I first applied white Gesso to the whole canvas, followed with one coat of Ivory Acrylic Paint. I let it dry and then used some Shimmerz and Tattered Angels sprays in soft pinks, lilacs, and creams to add a little bit of color in the background.

2. I dried it and then used the 12x12 Prima Crackle Stencil with texture paste. I then washed it off a little bit using Gesso above the crackle texture. Finally, I used the Prima Chalk Pads in different places through out the canvas to add a bit more of color.

3. I did the same steps for the Resist Canvas Pieces and glued them to the canvas. To finish my canvas I added Prima flowers, embellishments, and my sentiment using the Prima Alphabet Stickers perfect for canvas :)

Doll Canvas

Janine has fallen in love with creating mixed media canvases with the adorable Mixed Media Doll Stamps.

To create this canvas she added some strips of paper just on one side of the canvas then gave a quick coating of gesso.
Once that was dry she added a layer of pink acrylic paint before coating it all with crackle medium.
She let this dry then added another layer of white acrylic paint so that a touch of pink shows through the crackle.
She then added strips of the resist canvas to her design and used texture paste through a mask in random areas of the canvas, even covering over the canvas strips a little bit as well.
Once the texture past was dry she applied a coating of her glimmermists, predominantly over the areas with the texture paste and colour really holds on the dry texture paste.
When applying mist over the resist canvas she dabbed off excess mist with paper towel to help the resist image show through.
A touch of Iridescent medium rubbed over the textured area helps to soften the misted area and blend the colours together, as well as adding gorgeous pearlescent highlights.

8. Once the background was done Janine added her floral cluster and again use leaves from her resist canvas and coloured them using the new pastel Chalk Edgers.

9. She found that using a baby wipe to swipe over the canvas after it was coloured helped to bring back the resist image.

10. She created the doll by stamping it on 4 different patterned papers and carefully cutting and paper piecing back together again for the striking striped skirt.

11. She finished off the whole canvas with a resist alphabet and some iridescent medium swiped across both the flowers and the canvas pieces for extra shimmer.

Mixed Media Cards & Tags!

For all those card and tag makers out there...YES, you can also use Mixed Media techniques when making your projects!

Mixed Media Lady Bird Card

Gerry featured background and clear stamps, as well as 6x6 stencils!

Gerry's card is bright and happy! Let's see how she created it:

1. I created a 5"x6" card. For the background I used two different masks and two different stamps.

2. When the masked clock was dry I colored only the numbers with yellow Copic Marker.

3. I added a round journaling sticker in the middle of the design. After that I colored the dots with a Blue Copic Marker.

4. The Butterfly was first stamped (Lyric #2 clear stamp), then cut out and, as a final touch, I added transparent Crackle Paint.

5. When the birdcage was cut out from the pattern paper the three doors were cut so then can stay open - underneath I added yellow pattern paper so they`ll pop up.

Mixed Media Card

Stacey's sweet and feminine card is filled with texture! What are her secrets?

"I loved creating this card. It is so sparkly like you wouldn't believe! I started out by using the mask with some modelling paste, I then added the paper layers and wrapped some string around the top area of the card. I added the resin piece and trim, then placed my flowers down the vine.

I found little spots for all of my extra embellishments and then started spraying away with my Shimmerz. If there was too much bright colour on there from the spray I simply applied some Gesso back over those sections to tone down the colour." ~Stacey

Canvas MM Cards

Featuring these Prima Products: wood clips, fabric & washi tapes, washi tape stamps!

Felicity created two beautiful, texture-filled, canvas cards for us!

Directions:

Step 1: Apply some texture paste using a 6 x 6 stencil. Then spray over the top of it.

Step 2: Using a Faber Castell Gelato colour a little at the top, then spray with water to blend the Gelato in.

Step 3: Tear some small pieces of the washi and fabric tapes and the adhere them with some random zig zag stitching.

Step 4: Cute off a small piece of the trim and adhere over the top of the tape.

Step 5: Then adhere your little flower cluster and a few wood embellishments and clips.

Step 6: Add your title. Using some Gesso and little water, white wash the tag to blend it altogether.

Altered MM Tag

Stamping! Stamping!

Who loves stamping? Who has never tried stamping? Raise your hand!

You know Prima makes a wide variety of stamps? That's right. We have clear stamps, cling stamps, washi tape wood stamps, doll stamps, & large foam stamps. There's literally something for EVERYONE!

Hopefully today's post will encourage those of you who have never tried stamping to go grab a Prima stamp and have some fun with it; while those of you who are stamp addicts may pick up a new technique or idea!

So let's see what our designers have for us today.

Mixed Media Tags

Janine created these vibrant and fun Mixed Media tags with multiple stamping techniques. She lay down her base color on her tags using the new Ranger Distress Paints; one directly onto the tag and rubbed in, one marbled on a craft mat (and then dipping the tag into the paint); and one by applying blotches of paint and misting for dripping effects.

Once dry she stamped with various Prima stamps; sometimes with black ink, sometimes using the distress paints for a softer effect. She used a combination of “rolling” stamping techniques without using a block, as well as the standard way of mounting your stamp on a block first.

The rolling technique allows for a more random stamped image, perfect for mixed media projects. She finished off her tags with Hello Pastel Flowers and SIIC swirls.

TIP: to "roll" your stamps just pick up the clear stamps in your hand, add ink, and curl the stamp outward slightly so parts of the image make contact with the paper. This will give a fabulous broken edge to your stamped image and eliminate harsh edges.

Stamped Layout

Finn layers different stamp images to create a gorgeous grunge look on her projects. If you look carefully you will notice that she always uses themto create focal points around her photos...naturally drawing your eye to the picture and across the project.

The stamped images do not have to be clear or bold...just use a soft black ink (Prima Chalk Edger) and use multiple stamps on top of one another to recreate this look.

By using just a portion of the stamp in some areas you can add a distressed, grunge look without getting all messy!

Dream Box
