There are just times when we need a jumping off point. We want to scrapbook or work on a project, but the mojo is just missing.
Well, that is the perfect time to peek at a gallery or Pinterest board for a layout that you really LOVE. Pick an element, or two, that catches your eye from it. It could be the sketch of the design that is dynamic, or maybe the color palette is dreamy, or the page uses embellishments that you have on hand, or includes a technique you'd like to try.
Print out the sample page you want to scraplift (or take a photo of it with your smartphone) so you have a quick reference near you and pull out your Prima scrap supplies! You will be creating a page you love in no time at all!
Scraplifting is a wonderful way to be inspired and get the brain in gear again. We asked our design team to scraplift one of our own. We let them pick any element they wanted from this gorgeous design by Steph Devlin:
Do you ever look at a layout that you LOVE and want to make one like it, but keep it in YOUR style?
Well, we hope to have some inpiration for you! Once a month we post a fabulous layout and ask our design team to scraplift it. They can choose anything on the layout that inspires them...it could be the color scheme, art techniques, products used, scrap style, basic sketch, or the title.
We love what our team has done each month! It has pushed some a bit out of their comfort zone (with fabulous results), it has opened up NEW ways to use products, and it has taught us how to really be inspired by one another. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?
This month we have this gorgeous project by Magda Bolinska. Magda is the queen of stamping...and she layers a lot of techqniues without creating a lot of bulk. Her layouts are whimsically messy and fun! We knew this would be a GREAT layout to scraplift.
Leslie Ashe pulled out a gorgeous palette of colors for her scraplift! Adding masking like Magda's, as well as stamping touches, Leslie stayed in her own style, but added a sweet Magda influence!
"Magda’s page inspired me by her attention to detail in her design. I love
the way she free handedly makes her art so beautiful! And I love polka dots. When I saw Magda’s design
with the polka dots, I KNEW I wanted to include that in my design as my main
feature." ~Leslie
Larissa Albernaz loved Magda's page! Just read what inspired her:
"Inspired by Magda´s page, I decided to use the same paper collection, title
and materials to recreate mine. I also created a textured background by
overlapping some stamps, as she did, and by adding some art mediums and
masking techniques to it."
Solange Marques kept her signature look, but added a few of Magda's touches to make this stunning layout! Solange used basic sketch for placement of her photo, title, and artsy touches (like gesso, splashes of paint and misting), but kept the color palette, paper choices, and photo her own. What a great meshing of the two!
Janna Werner is our clean and simple gal who rocks the use of white space! We knew this scraplift would be a challenge, but were excited to see what she would come up with.
Here´s what inspired Janna:
I love Magda´s style - she is
amazing with all her details and craziness on the page. I am a rather
clean scrapper, I need things to be "organized" and clear on my page. It
was very challenging for me to adapt Magda´s style to mine - trying to
create a clean page with all the different elements on her layout.
Compared to her page, mine looks quite naked, lol, but I love using lots
of white space."
We have another Scraplift for you. This month, our scraplift piece was designed by the creative Stacey Young. Stacey's fairytale creation is filled with the Firefly collection and Prima embellishments galore. Her page shares so many possibilities!
We have three wonderful artists using Stacey's page as their inspiration. Take a look at how they chose to interpret her page.
This adorable page is by Magda Bolinska. Her mixed media touches pull her gray background with her colorful layers.

Our last page is by Lene Bjrnerud. She uses Stacey's layout design to create her wow worthy page.
We have three amazing projects based off of this creative piece by Brit Sviggum. Brit creates a wonderland with her pages and we love how our design team members interpreted her page.
Now that we've taken a look at the inspiration let's look at the results.
First we have this darling layout by Gerry van Gent. She nestles her fussy cut photo in a garden of Prima flowers. A wonderful take on Brit's design.

Leslie Ashe gives us a different approach at using Brit's page as inspiration. She uses embellishments and composition from our scraplift to design her classic page. She shows how everyone takes a different approach to every project.
Today is our last Scraplift feature for the month. We had so much fun using each other for inspiration and we hope you did as well.
When scraplifting, there are so many things you can use from a layout as your lift. It could be the colors used, the outline of the page, it can even be as simple as the products used. You can go back through your own work and find projects to scraplift. Using scraplifts is an easy way to get out of that creative rut or give yourself that extra boost.
Our fist scraplift was inspired by this creative page designed by Trina McClune.
There are so many gorgeous layouts from Trina I truly could not decide which one to lift. I scrolled through her gallery (several times) and was mesmerised by this stunning page. Her work is so incredibly neat and her little details are just delightful.
Of course having 3 boys the pink just would not work for me, but keeping the same amazing design I opted to change the colour palette.
I loved Trina layout so much that I kept a lot of the same elements on my page and just added my own touches and style for example the misting!! I cut paper circles and distressed the edges and used the end of a paintbrush to dot my way around the page. Thankyou so much Trina for inspiring me, I really did get lost in your layout;) ~Stacey Young

Anna Marie Mondro thought up this beautiful layout. Her beautiful work inspired Emeline Seet's wonderful project.
I scraplifted Anna Marie's gorgeous mix of warm colors into her layouts. Her use of embellishments and use of recycled elements (i.e.: corrugated board) brings attention to her photos.
It is a struggle for me to scrap in darker, warm colors. However, the freedom to scrap lift Anna Marie's layouts made me think it isn't so difficult to work with deep colors after all ! Thank you for inspiring me, Anna Marie :) ~Emeline

This colorful treat was created by Leslie Ashe. She was the inspiration for Janine's scraplift.
I had the wonderful task of scraplifting one of the layouts of the super talented Leslie Ashe!! I love the way Leslie has an artistic edge to her pages and a more free-flowing style. I chose to lift this page as I adored her arty circles and the way it meandered down the page. I used a lot of elements from the original page as my inspiration, especially the placement, but adapted other aspects to fit my style. In keeping with the artistic whimsy of the original page, I went to town with glimmer mists to create my own “artsy” background paper, but rather than using Pan Pastels for circles as Leslie did, I used an octagon die and double layered them to add a touch of my style into it as well.
Finally I finished off the page with flowers, chipboard and some bling. I replicated the flower placement fairly closely, but chose to add a bit of my style to it by incorporating a bit of bling trailing from the lower floral cluster. Thank you so much Leslie for creating such an inspiring original design for me to lift. ~Janine Koczwara

Emeline Seet created this amazing layout. It's the perfect layout for Anna Dabrowska to scraplift.
I had the honor of scraplifting a project of the wonderful and talentedEmeline. I totally adore her sense of style and multifloralcompositions which were a great source of inspiration for me. In factI discovered we've got a lot of things in common: we both like to workon the customized backgrounds and we both create clusters... maybe a bit of different kind, but the idea is similar! I loved studyingEmeline's multi-layered flower projects, finding new elementsin very detailed work and trying to follow her steps in composing alayout based on one, large group of embellishments. I found out thatEmeline tends to use one, medium sized or small photo in a company ofa large number of clustered flowers, usually situated on the one sideor bottom of it - that was a challenge for me as I usually try tosurround my photos from all sides! The next observation I made wereher delicate, feminine, usually whitewashed color palettes - beautifulsets of colors matching each others perfectly... again, veryinspiring! My project is based on her amazing layout "Blessed are the pure inheart" - I loved this artwork from the first sight! Eye-catchingphoto, masked and painted background, large flower cluster - it allmade my creative juices flowing! I started with the background: the two papers were layered one on another, distressed, and sprayed. Then stampedand painted with a bit of gesso. The photo I used is my interpretationof the composition of the original photo - the person showed on it hasgot the flower cluster behind her back, just like the children on thebeautiful Emeline's picture. Building the group of embellishments Itried to use a similar set of elements, but with a touch of "me" too -and i'm quite happy with the final result:)Scraplifting this project was a pure pleasure for me - Emeline is avery talented artist, so I feel that I not only had great creative funbut also learned a lot about other ways of building composition. Thankyou so much for this inspiring challenge! ~Anna

This dimensional work of art was created by Heidi Kelley. Heidi's layout gave Anne Jo Lexander, her ideas for her adorable page.
When I think of Heidi Kelley...I think of her little scenes, no matter if it's on a layout or a shadowbox, where she hand cut her photos, staging a whole new stage for her protagonists...and then there's paint, lots of paint, and colors, and usually a whole little mix of flowers....While I had her recent layout "Blowing kisses" as a starting point (her two focal points on the layout are the two clusters, I've mimicked them on mine)...I additionally had her whole style in mind when creating my lift, especially the playful side of her creations, it's like she's carefree and happy when creating, exploring the artsier sides of scrapbooking and painting and art journaling, happily bringing them all together.
I'll admit..I was terrified...I still am...I like to think I'm handling most styles well, but hers really is one I don't go exploring too often! But once I started...I had fun during the planning stage, thinking....what would Heidi do now....in the end I just had to jump in and get started before I regretted things too much! :D Heidi, I hope you approve! ~Anne Jo
