Mixed Media is a blast to play around with...so far this month we have shown layouts, cards, tags, off-the-page, and mini-albums all done MM style. Today we have a VERY special feature on altered canvases.
BUT, first we have some EXCITING news! We want to introduce you to our newest educator:
Limor Webber
My name is Limor Webber, I am married to my amazing husband Curtis, and together we have two beautiful girls Hannah, 8, and Ava, 5.
I am a crafting junkie who likes to think of
new techniques every free second I get. The best part about thinking of
new techniques is being able to share them with others. Watching
someone's face after completing a technique they never thought they
could do is like a rush for me. Inspiring others is a true passion for
me and what gives me that true sense of fulfillment.
What is your favorite Prima product?
Not the easiest question to answer considering... I love it all but, hands down, no one makes flowers like Prima.
What music/songs do you listen to when you scrapbook?
My music choice changes depending on my mood. I could go from Top 40's to classical, Jazz, and so on... I simply love music.
Favorite food to eat?
Don't
torture me for this answer please, but I am a salad lover! And I am
known for making the best salads amongst our group of friends.
If you could go on a dream vacation where would you go?
I would go on an adventure with my family: such as a South African Safari
What inspires you the most?
I'm
really inspired by my daughters' ability to simply let life in and enjoy
every moment. They constantly remind me to stay present in the moment
and enjoy my surroundings.
What is your fave subject to scrapbook?
My kids-they are my joy in life.
How long have you been scrapbooking?
I have been crafting since I was quite young, but scrapbooking for over 8 years.
Limor has a special canvas that she created to show you too!
Just look at his beauty! We know you are going to LOVE seeing Limor work with Prima products. Stay tuned as we share MORE of her work in the future, and try to grab one of her classes when she's in your area!
We also have a FULL step-by-step tutorial on how to color canvas by the talented Maiko Kosugi:
Maiko's canvas is soft and pretty, layered with artsy techniques and topped off with shabby chic effects!
Maiko used similar colors to help everything coordinate, but had a lot of fun playing with products too. Shown: Tiny Junkyard Findings and Resist Canvas Alphas.
Just count the layers Maiko added to her project to create depth, interest and lots and lots of texture!
Subtle touches can make your project absolutely superb-like the resist canvas pieces and stencil techniques. Want to see how she did it?
Tutorial Time:
Step 1: Use PanPastels to color your canvas. Apply with a dry sponge. Blend colors in. Note: (You can find a canvas in almost any shape or size you want. Craft stores and www.dickblick.com carry them.)
Step 2: Use Shimmerz Mists to add even more color and a bit of sparkle. Maiko chose two main colors to work with: turquoise and yellow. Dry with a heat gun.
Step 3. Choose a 6x6 Prima stencil. Mix super heavy gesso and acrylic paints. Apply randomly with a palette knife or old credit card over the stencil in random areas on the canvas. Dry.
See how it looks once you remove your stencil? Wash stencil immediately when using gesso.
The super heavy gesso will hold it's shape on any surface once it is dry.
Step 4: Pick another stencil design and add white gesso in areas around the frame.
Step 5: Dry the canvas thoroughly, then decorate!
Step 6: Layer papers, doilies, flowers, crystals and other embellies that you love to your page. Center your photo front and center and add a Prima wood clip to make it stand out.

Solange Marques also has a step-by-step for us today! Just watch her do her magic right here:
Step 1. Glue out
the photo and adhere to a canvas. To make photo look like it blends in with the backdrop use Acrylic Gesso and Acrylic paints to paint a backdrop.
Step 2. Punch out
butterflies from Fairy Rhymes Collection Papilion paper and place the negative sheet on the
background to use as a mask.
Step 3. Use PanPastels around the butterflies. Next spray with color sprays like Dylusions. Remove the mask and dry.
Step 4. Choose Prima stamps and randomly stamp on the layout with black ink.
Step 5. Apply Prima's chalk edger inks to the canvas resist shapes. Then
spray with water. Dry and add to layout.
Step 6. Add
flowers, title, and crystals.
