Layouts, Tags and Canvas...these are all just vehicles of personal expression. Today we are going to explore mixed media products and techniques on all three of these avenues! So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the tips and techniques our gals have for you today!
Mixed Media Layout
by Designer Steph Devlin
Steph uses a variety of art products and techniques on her gorgeous layout. If there is one thing we want to stress-it's that you can do mixed media with ANY scrapbooking style and on ANY project!
Steph colored resist canvas, added paste in a glorious pattern to her page, added watercolor effects and more to create these beautiful results.
Nic is going to show us step-by-step how to create this MM tag! Just pick up the techniques you like and try them on your next project. It's all about the inspiration!
Steps:
1.
Create a tag using several layers of Ladybird papers, distress edges and use
Ladybird cling stamps to stamp words on the background.
2.
Use a 6x6 mask with texture paste to cover your tag. Once I lifted the
mask I spread the texture paste a little more to blur the shapes created.
3.
Use various small pieces of paper to create layers with texture paste and masks
on your tag.
4.
Add other background elements such as alphabets, trinkets and more
stamping. Add texture paste on top if you wish to keep the colours shabby.
5.
Finish tag with flowers, laces and elements cut out of Ladybird
papers.
Juliana is going to share her steps to create this lovely canvas:
1. I first applied white Gesso to the whole canvas, followed
with one coat of Ivory Acrylic Paint. I let it dry and then used some
Shimmerz and Tattered Angels sprays in soft pinks, lilacs, and creams to
add a little bit of color in the background.
2. I dried it and then used the 12x12 Prima Crackle
Stencil with texture paste. I then washed it off a little bit using
Gesso above the crackle texture. Finally, I used the Prima Chalk Pads in
different places through out the canvas to add a bit more of color.
3. I did the same steps for the Resist Canvas
Pieces and glued them to the canvas. To finish my canvas I added Prima
flowers, embellishments, and my sentiment using the Prima Alphabet
Stickers perfect for canvas :)
Janine has fallen
in love with creating mixed media canvases with the adorable Mixed Media
Doll Stamps.
To create this canvas she added some strips of paper just
on one side of the canvas then gave a quick coating of gesso.
Once
that was dry she added a layer of pink acrylic paint before coating it
all with crackle medium.
She let this dry then added another layer of
white acrylic paint so that a touch of pink shows through the crackle.
She then added strips of the resist canvas to her design and used
texture paste through a mask in random areas of the canvas, even
covering over the canvas strips a little bit as well.
Once the texture
past was dry she applied a coating of her glimmermists, predominantly
over the areas with the texture paste and colour really holds on the dry
texture paste.
When applying mist over the resist canvas she dabbed
off excess mist with paper towel to help the resist image show through.
A touch of Iridescent medium rubbed over the textured area helps to
soften the misted area and blend the colours together, as well as adding
gorgeous pearlescent highlights.
8. Once
the background was done Janine added her floral cluster and again use leaves from her resist canvas and coloured them using the new pastel
Chalk Edgers.
9. She found that using a baby wipe to swipe over the canvas
after it was coloured helped to bring back the resist image.
10. She
created the doll by stamping it on 4 different patterned papers and
carefully cutting and paper piecing back together again for the striking
striped skirt.
11. She finished off the whole canvas with a resist
alphabet and some iridescent medium swiped across both the flowers and
the canvas pieces for extra shimmer.
Anna's bold MM look is just striking! She is a pro at adding anything and everything to her canvas and then pulling it all togetehr with inks and sprays!
Try opening up the possibilities by looking around your home to find items to place on a canvas. Choose items that add meaning to the subject you are workign on.
A few words from Anna:
"What I really love about Prima embellishments is their great quality
and beautiful design which allows me to alter them in the way I need
for my projects. No matter what kind of medium I use: acrylic paint,
gesso, sprays, watercolors - the flowers are always in good shape,
looking exactly the way I wanted! For this project I used a selection
of leaves and roses - but also one of my favorite things - my
"leftover" trim pieces and canvas sheets which were torn into smaller
strips which helped me build dimensional background."

Tips from Stacey:
Apply Gesso to the background paper to wash out the pattern.
Apply a little misting as you layer your creations. Spray and flick a lot more towards the end of process. Pop a scrap of cardstock over the picture so it doesn't get covered in
mist.
The Junkyard findings are perfect for layering with each other, apply a little gesso and then give them a light mist also.

Cari layered the background with papers and packaging, then topped it with fun orange stitching, a bit of washi tape and those cute Ladybird chipboard pieces!
Our new geometric crystals are perfect for circling a title.
And our flowers perfectly coordinate with the line, while providing AMAZING patterns!
Jamie chose a softer palette from this line for her page. She accented the adorable photo with flowers, and canvas resist pieces that she custom-colored to match her layout. (See the cute packaging tucked in behind her photo?)
Stacey used the LadyBird collection to create this gorgeous beach page. The colors and patterns are wonderfully suited for ANY summery page!
Of course Stacey added layers of elements on her design: resins, flowers, metals, crystals and more! Each of our pieces coordinate beautifully together without being too matchy-matchy.
If you love a lot of white space on your layout you will love how Felicity used our LadyBird line! Adding bits of papers, chipboard and flowers, Felicity created a wonderfully HAPPY page!
Hege chose to cut a few of our designs from the paper line to accent her wonderful page! Setting everything on a LadyBird paper creates a fabulous border filled with color and pattern to pull the design together.
A few flowers clustered together finish the design off with a little garden right there on your page.
Steph chose the turquoise and grey papers to create this stunning layout! Banner strips, doilies and paper cut-outs all add dimension and visual interest to the page.
A sweet cluster of flowers frames the photo.
See how amazing the designs are when cut out and used as an element on the page!
Last, but not least, we have a cutie pie page from Jamie showing off the sweet papers, canvas resist shapes, and alphas! Yes, you can color your own canvas resist alphas with ANY color you desire for a perfect match to your photos! This alpha has a chevron design to match the LadyBird papers. The alphas are also available in a diagonal stripes, wood grain, and script designs.
yes Thank you Prima, we love your products and those of us outside the US are so excited to get a chance to win. Loving the fresh spring colours, Happy Hello from Ireland
