With Easter right around the corner, I was looking at the little plastic eggs sitting in a basket on my table last night and thinking how they didn't seem very special. We always give each of the children a gift on Easter morning before heading out to brunch, so I decided to make something special to hold a small gift instead of placing it inside the usual basket. Once again, packaging was my inspiration and starting point for this project.
I recently came to the end of a mini can of flowers and had a moment of serendipity when I discovered that a 12" strip would not only wrap around the circumference of the can, but also from edge to edge, running underneath the bottom as well. How perfect for making a simple Easter project?
To make it easy to work with, I used a plain coaster as the base, and glued my 12" by 3/4" strips to the center, alternating patterns and flipping them over to reveal each side.
Then I placed a strip of paper around the pail, following the basketweave pattern, going in and out of the strips. A dot of Fabritac glue was placed at the end, and a tie wrap secures it in place while it dries for a few minutes.
Continue adding strips, and weaving them in alternating patterns. Leave a small gap in-between each strip to reveal the contents of the pail. Move the tie wrap up as you go.
I had already popped the handle out of the holes of the pail. So then I took some Prima lace and wove it onto the handle to make a ruffle. I sprayed this and the remaining lace which I adhered around the rim with Glimmer Mist and adhered it to the project with Fabritac. The ruffle doesn't need any glue, since the handle will hold it in place. Use a paper piercer to expose the holes and replace the handle.
The packaging left over from the embellishments I used looks like great shred material to me. So I ran it through my paper crimper and cut it into thin strips. Nothing is wasted with this project.
The shred is placed inside, with some candies for now.
I wrapped the pearl border around the plastic egg, which is secured to the top of the flower stack on the lid with Fabritac.
I randomly applied pearl and crystal embellishments to the paper weaving, some butterflies cut from the remaining patterned paper and clipped a butterfly in place.

I saw a photo of Cari's tin earlier this month. It's adorable, and I love what you did with yours too! So different. Now I'm itching to go home and get messy with some of my old tins too!
