Introducing Our Latest Guest Designer!!

Amelia_headshotAmelia McIvor comes to us all the way from Australia!
The talented Amelia is a current Memory Makers Master and loves to embroider on her designs. She also dabbles in digital scrapbooking. Let's get to know her a bit better and take a look at the designs she created just for Prima!

1. When did you start scrapbooking and how did you get started?
Scrapbooking was something I was “forced” into. I was invited to a scrapbooking party in late 2003 and did not want to go, but my husband talked me into it so he could watch the football. He really only has himself to blame for the piles of stuff that are filling up the spare room!

2. From where do you draw inspiration?
Inspiration comes from lots of different places for me, but I think anything that is well designed can be a spark for creating layouts. I love architecture, advertisements and window displays. I’ll often stand outside a store or building sketching things onto scraps of paper for later use.

3. Describe your style for us.
I usually say “linear with a twist”. I like to break lines with small elements or text and layer different textures into the one page. My absolute favorite way to add texture is with hand-stitching. (Sometimes, though, I wish I owned a sewing machine!)

4. How do you go about designing a page?
Pages, for me, vary on where they start – photo, product, story – but before I actually start constructing a page I always create a sketch on scrap 12x12 papers. The sketch gets adjusted and changed until I am happy and then I can start the real thing.

5. In general, how long does it take you to do a page?
It usually takes me four to six hours to finish a page, but if I have a lot of stitching on my page then, I am embarrassed to say, it can take me up to twenty hours to get one page done.

6. What is your favorite Prima product?
I really love the new Voila felt die cut strips – they are so cute. The hybrid and digi papers and embellies are a close second – I don’t normally use digitally based products, but the Prima ones are irresistible.

7. What are 3 other products that you can't live without?
Embroidery threads, anything that I can change or deepen colors with (pens, pencils, paints, chalks) and chipboard alphas…actually any alphas.

8. What is/was one of your favorite scrapbook trends/fads?
Currently, I am really into the cloud trend. It’s weird, I usually don’t follow trends...or I fall in love with something when it’s very over…are clouds already done?

9. Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
Just a huge thanks to Prima for inviting me to play!

Amelia_home_large

This layout showcases Amelia's talent with thread and a needle. She takes the colors of the Prima Pixie Tin Pia flowers (516611) and duplicates them in her own personalized design down the left side of the layout.

She also did this layout in honor of our Easy To Be Green contest!

Amelia used the packaging from some of the products – the background and the scallop strip are from the transparency overlay packaging, the white houses are from the backing of the felt die cut and the heart is cut from another package. How cool is that? (If you are worried about product packaging being acid-free simply spray them with products made for this very purpose.)

...................................................................................................................................................

Amelia_home_is_where_the_heart_is2_ ...Other products used: Voila felt die cut (880408), Dude paper (stars-820282), Say It In Crystals (black flourishes-522964) and Letter Perfect Felt Alphas (811792)

.......................................................................................................................................................

Amelia_every_cloud_large Every Cloud is a cool composition of Dude papers. We love how Amelia included a "Ready, Set, Go" glittered overlay (820398) to form the clouds! She then added a Say It In Crystals swirl (517304) for some additional sparkle. Letter Perfect felt letters and a flower from the Dude Essentials 4 (523718) line complete this amazing layout!

.........................................................................................................................................................

Amelia_every_cloud2_largeThis close-up shows Amelia's beautiful and creative title!

..........................................................................................................................................................

Amelia_art_is_in_the_eye_largeMr. Potato Head (not Humpty Dumpty-;)) brings back fond memories of childhood in this whimsical layout, Art is in the Eye of the Beholder. Amelia used a variety of Prima's digital elements (digital papers: Steel Toe Mary Janes, One Season, Scallywag 6x6 paper; Digital embellishments: Itty Bitty Alphas and A Little Magic Volume 3) and then printed the 12x12 design out for her scrapbook! Prima's digital elements can be found at www.primahybrid.com

Many of our digital elements at Prima Hybrid work directly with Prima's exclusive products to create gorgeous and unique projects!

............................................................................................................................................................

Thank you so much, Amelia, for guest designing for us! It is such an honor for Prima to showcase one of Australia's many talented scrappers!!

Easy To Be Green Reminder!

Box_largePrima's "Easy To Be Green" contest is underway, but there is still plenty of time to dig out your Prima containers and re-purpose them! Here is a direct link to the contest rules: Easy To Be Green Contest Details

Here is an example from our very own Design Team member, Iris Babao-Uy. Iris took a wooden box from the Naturally Flower collection (507336) and altered it to create this gorgeous keepsake box. A few well-chosen Prima embellishments (Elysee lace, Voila felt, Say It In Crystals, Painterly Petals flowers and Renaissance flowers) can turn any container into a work of art!

Hopefully, Iris' beautiful box will inspire you to enter the contest and win BIG!
